019 What is Academic Advising

Academic Advisors assist students in developing an academic and career plan, monitor students in the major, and discuss how a course of study fits a particular academic or career interest. Advisors answer questions concerning a specific academic concern, such as problems with a particular class, and guide students through the registration process, including help if a student is on academic probation.
Amanda Shurtleff is a graduate of Florida State University where she earned her Bachelors of Science as a double major in Communications and Psychology and a Masters of Science in Communications. So how does the academic advisor calculate credits and the ability to schedule that time so the student isn’t overloaded? What are the average number of credits per semester that is reasonable and how does the advisor counsel accordingly with regards to that?
