    Went through this years ago with my '06 Avalanche. Don't remember how I even determined which element was bad but it wasn't this complicated, I never took the seat out until I was actually replacing it. What they should mention and what I did; when the seat heater is on you're usually running both elements anyway so if one element is out the other probably isn't far behind, why take the seat apart twice? Just order both elements and save yourself the hassle, they aren't grossly expensive and then you have a whole new heated seat.

    Any insight on how to troubleshoot the heated seat switch itself? I swapped mine out yesterday for a new one, but when I got it plugged in, there was no power sent to it, or the old one. I know the heating elements work, but can't figure out how to get the switch power.

    My light comes on and stays on but I don't get any heat. On my 01 2500HD. I have been trying to find a diagram for it but have not found the exact one for my truck. Any ideas what it could be or where I could find a good diagram for it? I actually found you while looking for new seat covers as I am planning to do new leather covers pretty soon but want to figure out the heaters first. To give an idea of things the engine went out and the seat heaters were working at that time but it sat for a while to fix the engine but now they no longer work. Surely this isn't from something like my cruise control is and replacing brake lights with led lights makes it stop working.

    Hi and thanks for the question, it will be a pain but you can still get to it, you will first need to remove two 13mm bolts in the front of your seat pan and then shimmy the pan upward since there are a couple tabs that hold it in place. You can then have access to start unplugging the electrical wires to be able to remove pan. After all of this, you will have access to the control module which is screwed down.

    Does the switch or something require a certain resistance to work? I’m really debating how bad I want heated seats, the replacement ones are a bit expensive, especially for both, I was thinking about ordering the universal Doeman kit on Amazon that’s like 38 bucks and seeing if they’d work with the factory switch. Worst case scenario I suppose I just run a new line and use the supplied switch. I have relays and wire and connectors so I don’t really mind doing that, I’m just unsure how much I want to dump into a 200k mile vehicle just to warm my butt. No offense to your product or prices or anything, I’m sure they are reasonable for the quality, it’s not that I think they are too expensive or anything, just probably more than I want to invest in this vehicle.

    Thanks for reaching out! We completely understand what you are saying and if you would like to go with the Dorman kit that's a solid option. However, just keep in mind there's a required connector resistance that GM vehicles use and if the resistance is too low, the vehicle with think there's a problem. Just make sure to cut the heating pad to match the correct size of your vehicle, let us know if you need any additional help!

  • @mcearl8073

    @mcearl8073

    TheSeatShop Thanks for the info, maybe I’ll see if I can do a bit of research and see what resistance they are VS what the GM computer needs to see and see if it’s doable. Or I’ll just put it off till fall and if the Tahoe seems like it’s going to be around for a while I’ll just do it the right way and order your pads, the doorman one looks a lot smaller, at least smaller than the bottom one anyway.

    Most likely various heating elements have been shorted out or another possible cause is that your control module has stopped working. We are not sure about the vehicle you are needing help with but our knowledge will only be for the 2000-2006 GM vehicles.

    Hi Joseph, thanks for reaching out, honestly there are too many variables to really tell without troubleshooting it. If they are turning on and off without you touching anything this might be your actual control module underneath your seat. If you are turning them on then it may be that one of your heaters has shorted out and it is causing your heating cycle to stop.

    These videos are great and very helpful but, you need to streamline the information by saying the same thing with the fewest number of words. In other words, get to the point. Create a script and then whittle it down to the fewest words. I do it by creating numbered steps. It can't be a rambling story. I just ordered by pair of heaters, and I'll be troubleshooting soon.

  • @TheSeatShop

    @TheSeatShop

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi and thanks for the comment, we have another video using a meter that can be seen here - kzread.info/dash/bejne/mp6Mu9Cbd7XLYs4.html - but when we did test various burnt-out elements they never gave us accurate readings to determine which ones were out every time. Plus, we wanted to make a video that also had a solution to the problem and since we ship everything for free we figured anyone ordering would be in a win/win scenario.
