$0.50 Soviet Amusement Park Rides In GYUMRI, ARMENIA
Lord let me live another day. I didn't know that there were still Soviet Amusement parks still operating, but it looks like there's a gem of one in Armenia's second largest city, Gyumri! This city has gone through many difficult times, including the 1988 earthquake as well as the dissolution of the USSR shortly afterwards. Now it is well on its way of building its own identity as the cultural capital of Armenia.

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads): safetywing.com?referenceID=alinamcleod&Ambassador
I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.

I really like the background musics, they have some retro vibe and remind me of the Soviet era.
Thank you for such an insightful outlook on Armenia, lovely!! I smiled ear to ear watching you having fun at the amusement park. You were brave!! I probably would've been vomiting as I got motion sickness so easily 😂😂😆

Hi Alina! I very much enjoyed this video! It’s exciting to discover, explore and compare different post-Soviet countries and societies, and assess how things have evolved and transformed since the demise of the Soviet Union in 1990-91. Gyumri, known as Alexandropol in the 19th century and Leninakan during Soviet times, lives on after a horrendous 1988 earthquake as a vibrant Armenian cultural center with a robust Russian / Soviet legacy. Love the background music!
May God bless you. Thank you for your stories.
Now, this looks like a very interesting day.
The layout of that art museum could give the National Gallery in London lessons! (I used to spend the odd hour there between meetings and was generally unimpressed with the cluttered presentations)
Heloooo from California thanks for visiting Armenia and make amazing videos ,
When the earthquake hit Armenia, I was 19 years old, in mandatory military service, since South Yemen was within the system of socialism, there were huge efforts to help the people of Armenia, I remember, we were loading different kinds of cargo/food, especially seafood/fish To Armenia, I had nights at Aden airport helping to load food into Armenia, we were told that the people of Armenia love seafood, and we were happy to assist.

OMGOSH!! LOVE Gyumri!! The culture and the architecture… like that in Gyumri it’s mostly black tuf as opposed to Yerevan with mostly pink tuf. Was just there about 5 weeks ago. Got haircut at the oldest barber shop… ‘cause how do you not do that?!? Super beautiful. Torn between Dilijan Gyumri and Bjni to retire in. Not super comfortable with THAT many Russian Fed troops being there,,, being that I am career US Military… but definitely anywhere in Hayastan is better than anywhere here now, the country formerly known as the US

Нам нравятся такие ролики от нашего любимого режиссёра Alina Mcleod!!!)))
Like so many of your videos this one takes me on a journey to a not-very-touristy part of the world to which I may never travel. Your unique ease in maneuvering (with camera in hand) around Gyumri without a hint of self consciousness is remarkable to me and typical of many of your excursions to foreign lands. You are my travel role model. Your choice of music for this video was very special and consistent with the subject, history and age of the city.

Alina another great post. I look forward to your posts as you are always so positive but still show how things are really like wherever you go! Keep up the good work and stay safe my Canadian friend.
Your video productions are always so calming to me. I love your smiles and your little chuckles and laughs and also when you are walking and filming just ahead, how you have this little bounce. You do alot of endearing things that you may not even realize. I like what you choose to film even in some of the more dreary places, like patting the dogs, the amusement parks. And that is just this one video. I was sort of scared for you one time with the canals and water taxis, when you seemed a bit lost, but I forgot that, when in doubt, there is always the taxis that can get you back to whereever. I don't know, I am just a person with generalized anxiety, so I can appreciate your adventures and being calmed down. I also love seeing your wardrobe and hairstyle and choice of hair color and am always quite interested in the things you choose to wear and your accessories. Thank you for your hard work in putting these travelogues together and serving us in that way. До скорого!

Gyumri is surely an example of the power of the human spirit. After so much tragedy and desolation ; to build a peaceful and placid city with trendy coffee shops, art gallery's and amusement rides for little kids and big kids is remarkable. I really enjoyed this video Alina. Thank you. R.I.P. Anthony Bourdain.

Very interesting video, Alina! Enjoyed it a lot and as always you covered everything very well in your walk around here. The first part when you showed the destruction of the earthquake was sad and it is always a moment of silence when you witness something that bad. Very interesting buildings there and thank you so much for giving us some history with it. Very good choice on music background also. Continue on and be safe great to see no masks by the people there. Cheers!!

All those rides Definitely brought me back to my childhood. Thank you Allina, to make me feel like I’m back been 10 Years old
I absolutely adore checking out these old leftover attractions and architecture from the Soviet Union, always a great time to see and research. Looks like Gyumri has both in spades.

It's always an experience following the steps of Bourdain. In Sapporo sits the ramen shop he visited. I always try to make the pilgrimage there wherever I'm in the northern prefecture's capital.
Great video and great music.

I am from Gyumri, my house is right behind that park. I am very glad that you came to our city. We have a very unique architecture, culture and history. Thank you for showing the world how beautiful our city is. You have very beautiful eyes. I wish you all the best.

Thanks Alina. You're doing such a good job. It's really fun watching you evolve into your own style of Post-Modern journalist. Especially when one considers that you're doing your own editing. I particularly enjoyed the visit to the art museum of the two sisters and the music you chose for the sequence on the Mother Armenia monument. Now I look forward to visiting these places when I'm in the area next spring. But I don't think I'll be brave enough to go on the rides at the amusement park. Take care and keep up the good work.

The number of Armenian cities/towns I can name has tripled in the last 2 days! (OK it was just Yerevan until you did the live on Sunday). Really enjoying this exploring :)

Barev, Alina, really good to see more around you`re Armenian adventures, well done work. Definitely not an easy life for the people there. Here the people going to party in Palma, don´t get me wrong, I like Palma, but the crowd cannot believe that there are places on this world amazing like Armenia. Stay safe and healthy, always.
I hope you had a chance to visit the patisserie that has alternately-talented employees. Great quality and a fantastic mission. If you’re still there, take a moment and stop by Villa Kars. It’s a hotel but it used to be homes close together with a fantastic courtyard. Great for photos. I
The best video about Gyumri 🤍

It’s been ages I’ve not been to an amusement park and experienced such fun stuff
Those rides looked fun! Nevermind the safety belt. 😃 Love the park scene. Green and childlike.
You can't beat an unofficial "Tony Tour" when you go somewhere new... A real shame that restaurant was closed.
😁 Love the thumbnail! 😂
I admire you and your travels. I wish I could just hug you at times.
I like what you show about my home country . Bravo.
Good things in a mountain town! The sights were impressive and while you couldn’t eat in the place the late Anthony Bourdain visited in “Parts Unknown” you had the next best thing in the restaurant next door. Enjoyed this travel vlog on Gumry and looking forward here to the next one.
looks like a lot of fun Alina weeeeee cool amusement park
